Loantaka Brook Reservation Trail

Wife and I had a nice ride through the trail. Will definitely be back. Nice area and plenty of benches along the way to sit and relax.

West Morris Greenway

good trail

Started at Horseshoe Park, a County Park, to warm up for about 2 miles around. Pretty park, with a beach, however, not open to non-residents of the town. Overall, the riding surface varied too often. Biked the 1st mile or so south, on a wide cinder path, which was excellent, however, as you went further south, it changed to dirt, which was fine when it was dry mostly the case on a hot July weekend. Then it narrowed, then went through what felt like wagon, wheel, ruts, where you can only bike in narrow channels and hen widened at a few points. once or twice it was mud for a short distance. On a hot July day, it provided great tree cover, but was slightly buggy. You could tell that if it rained, it would be very buggy. was a very pleasant ride but not many varied things to see so it became a bit monotonous.

Paulinskill Valley Trail

Could be so much better

Rode from Blairstown to knowlton and back. 14 miles. Goes for a good distance in a tree covered environment which usually is good However, the ground is still wet often, for biking the surfaces vary which is hard enough but when you have to bike through “wagon wheel ruts in the ground”, uncut grass, single file, avoid bushes, etc. not a lot of fun. Was watching the ground so not to slip. But the biggest fault was, there was no signage when the bike trail went on roads and then back on the trail. At least six or 7 times wish they had signs that said turn here, go left. We almost ended up on the runway of the local Blairstown Airport Also, it end before the Pauls Kill Viaduct Which is a major structure in NJ - was the largest concrete structure built in the world when it was built. Does not tell us how to there. Only a quarter a mile further ?? Lastly, in this section enjoy seeing old rail artifacts, country farms etc. not a lot here

Entered on Millstream. The first 4 miles were very pleasant, wide gravel which was firmly packed. Then it got a rather loose like pine barren sand. I have a hybrid so I was able to maneuver okay but my ride became a bit more stressful. Then after going through the tunnel under 195, the trail became less maintained and more narrow. It was a fun ride, especially since it was pretty straight. Several small bridges, farms and wooded. Very friendly people! It was an enjoyable trail but I doubt I will repeat.

Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail

Loop from Washington’s crossing to bull island, be aware of closure in PA south of new hope

July, 2024 by lenvo65

Great ride on a Saturday mid - day. Went north from Washington’s crossing to bull island on NJ side over the pedestrian bridge and back on the Pa side. Be aware that on PA canal path there is a closure about 3 miles south of new Hope, right by the graves of Washington’s crossing , to continue the loop to NJ you either need to double back to Cross at new Hope or ride on rt32 south a few miles to return to the canal path.

Joseph M. McDade Recreational Trail

Wow. Was very bumpy. A couple of trees were down. Started at Dingmans ferry. Went north. Lots of hills! Had to stop at Zimmermans Farm Road. It got too narrow from there. Exhausted!!

A great ride . A watch for when you’re in Goshen , if coming from Harriman when you get to where it says end of trail in Goshen proceed straight across into parking lot continue on railroad ave make left on west main then take west main until you see a cemetery on the left then make a right onto a paved walkway near the dead end street then make left to continue on the trail . I am writing this to help others poor signage

Norwalk River Valley Trail

Two Trails

July, 2024 by z4g9gshqpr

These are really 2 separate trails with a variety of surfaces and a bit of street riding. The Norwalk trail is mostly asphalt going north from the sound while the trail in Wilton has about half going through a wooded area with pea gravel. This is the most enjoyable spot to ride as the other half of the Wilton trail dies out north of town on Route 7 with nothing around. If they were ever able to connect the two routes you would have something.

Henry Hudson Trail

I finally decided to check out HHT. I thought a Summer Saturday might be busy, but I was pleasantly surprised. I started at Highlands and headed west to Keyport. Very peaceful. Had a good ride and will definitely be back

Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway

Briarcliff-Peekskill trail

I entered the trail on Ryder Road in Ossining and ran to the Teatown preserve and back (approximately 6 miles).

The trail is overgrown and not well maintained. There are points that are severely sloped and there are rocks hidden in high grass. Along the trail there is a creak that has stagnant water. The high grass and water leads to a large amount of bugs. I found a tick on my leg after the run.

On the trail there are abrupt up-hills that are not maintained or easy to traverse without coming to a slow walk due to rocks and roots. The scenery is beautiful but the trail needs a lot of love and care.

Rode this trail with my family . The trail takes you in a nice scenic route of mostly asphalt. A few hill but nothing a novice can’t handle.
